Offshore at Dawn
William Dewey Loudermilk

Sitting by the water’s side watching the ebbing tide
I don’t know but I can hear the barreling of my fear
Broken wings can fly no more Crash and burn upon the shore

Lying by the waterfall quietly I hear you call
rousing me from my sleep your shining eyes I wake to greet
and I don’t mind your waking me with all this beauty to see

Watching the sun rise, with my friends by my side
Another day has begun, another place I’ve seen and done
I hope it lasts another day, but war profiteers must pay

As the sun sinks into the sea, one last wave to the beach
to join my friends around the fire, to laugh and eat and of course get high
sit and laugh but not for long, it should be offshore at dawn
