I Thought

I Thought
William Dewey Loudermilk

Repent cried the Pope over a pile of coke and the masses tried
Who is this man I can’t understand interpreting for God
And in the Sistine the Nuns look pristine but one day the roof with fall
Because the Altar Boys have become the priest’s toys and no one asks why
Faith can be strong but religion is wrong think of all who have died
In the name of their god they rot under the sod I thought God is Love
The Church it seems has tarnished the dream of Heaven above

In the personal hell of his prison cell the T.V. preacher cries
As his cellmates prize he is sodomized he is paying for his lies
So when the struggle and strife of your boring life have long taken their toll
So you listen to him preach about sin caused you’re worried for your soul
But like the Conquistadors in their quest for gold committed genocide
If the greed of man is Christ’s plan show me where to hide
